The Villa
The most natural way to experience Thaembili Grove is as it was designed — as a complete, private world for up to four guests. The bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, poolside sunloungers and the L-shaped pool are entirely yours. No shared spaces, no other guests. Just the garden, the river, and the sound of the birds.
The Rooms
Thaembili Grove has two bedrooms. They can be booked together as a complete private villa — which is how most guests choose to stay — or individually, should you prefer. Either way, the pool, the garden, and the Ging River ("Ginganga") are never far away.
"Monara"
Double Room
Monara — the Sinhala name for the peacock, Sri Lanka's most celebrated bird
A large, airy room built to stay cool — designed to draw air through naturally, with air conditioning available for the warmer evenings. At the centre of the room is a King-sized bed with a ten-inch natural latex mattress, feather pillows and light cotton sheets, dressed with a traditional mosquito net that's as much a part of the room's character as anything else.
Built-in wardrobes with clothes hangers, a desk, a fridge, a safe, and tea and coffee making facilities are all provided as standard.
The open-air en-suite bathroom is fully private: a large shower area, a freestanding bathtub set beneath the sky, twin sinks and a toilet. Bathing here feels like another part of the garden rather than a separate, sealed-off room. Handloom cotton bathrobes are provided.
Step outside onto your own private terrace — a fan overhead, a table and chairs, and the kind of quiet that's hard to find. A few steps further, the sunloungers wait at the poolside, where the L-shaped pool wraps around two sides of the villa with direct access from your terrace.
"Kovula"
Twin Room
Kovula — the Asian koel, a cuckoo whose rising call is one of the most distinctive sounds of a Sri Lankan morning
Identical in feel to Monara — the same generous proportions, the same natural cooling, the same ten-inch latex mattress and feather pillows, the same open-air en-suite bathroom with freestanding bathtub, large shower area, twin sinks and toilet beneath the sky. Traditional mosquito nets are draped over each bed.
The difference is in the configuration: Kovula has two singles, which convert simply and comfortably into a King-sized double should you prefer — a room that works equally well for two friends, siblings, or a couple who would rather decide on arrival.

One Bedroom — Exclusive Villa Experience
For two guests who want a private villa without the second bedroom.
You have Monara — the double room — to yourselves, with full exclusive use of the pool, lounge and kitchen. The Kovula room remains closed. The experience is completely private: your own villa, your own pool, your own pace.
One Bedroom — Shared Villa
Occasionally, individual rooms become available at a more accessible rate.
In this case, the pool, kitchen and lounge are shared between the rooms — much like a small, intimate guesthouse where you cross paths with fellow travellers. The Thaembili Grove experience remains the same; only the exclusivity differs.
